~~~Artist Statement
In my work I deal with relationships, both cultural and personal. I want to engage the viewer with the images and texts we come in contact with everyday in daily life that often get ignored. I use color and popular culture references in order to disarm the viewer, prompting them to look at the sexual, racial, class, or religious issues just under the surface of things. I want them to examine and reexamine the information that inundates us on a daily basis.
In my work, cultural and personal relationships collide to meet one another, but there is never a resolve between the two of them. This is something that holds great interest to me; there is not always a silver lining Hollywood ending in life. The work deals with many contradictions, just as life does. I want to bring these contradictions together as a whole. I believe my work is about the experience of being present in the world. I want us all to be more aware of one another and the lives that we lead.
